They're Here!

I am finally feeling good enough to post about our little angels. Thanks for being patient, twins are a bit of work! They are here and healthy and we couldn't be happier. We love them to pieces. Here's the story of their arrival. The night of Sept. 18th I went into labor so Jordan decided he had better drive me to Idaho Falls. We checked into the hospital around midnight and they monitored my contractions. They were coming every couple of minutes but I wasn't progressing much so they told me to go home and sleep and come back the next day. That was a blessing because my dad was out of town and this gave him enough time to hurry and fly home. The next day I checked back into the hospital around noon and my doctor (father-in-law) broke baby A's water. They also started me on pitocin. That was the beginning of a VERY long day!
Many painful contractions and about 12 hours later I had started to progress. Baby B was still breach but Baby A was ready to make her debut. I FINALLY got an epidural about 11 hours into the pitocin and boy was that nice! At two in the morning I began to push. As baby A descended they wheeled me into the operating room. I had to deliver in there because of possible complications with twins and the breach presentation of Baby B. When we got into the operation room they did an ultrasound and much to all of our surprise Baby B had turned Vertex and was ready to deliver after her sister-good girl! I pushed for about an hour and a half. Unfortunately the epidural was beginning to wear off because I hadn't triggered it for more. I was getting REALLY tired and thinking how in the world am I going to do this twice?
Finally Baby A was delivered and sat on my stomach. I had about 30 seconds to enjoy her and then I had to concentrate on getting Baby B out. Fortunately two pushes later Baby B was out and sat on my stomach for about point 2 seconds until I started a very long cycle of vomiting from all the pain. Well worth it though! The babies had a hard transition and each had several respiratory therapists helping them breathe. After about two hours they were cleared and I was able to hold my two princesses.
Here we are. On the left Baby A: Sofia Marcell Baker and on the right Baby B: Bella Alyse Baker.
Sofia weighed in at 5 lb 13 oz born at 3:40 am and was 19 1/2'" long. Bella was 5 lb 5 oz born at 3:48 am and was 20" long. They are little sweet hearts and definitely sisters. Bella loves Sofia and always has her head turned admiring her. Sofia is very patient and content and Bella is a lot of attitude in a small little package. I can't imagine anything different than twins, it's so much fun, so tiring, and so rewarding!

Bella above loves baths especially when her daddy comes home to give her one!
Sofia below loves her daddy's voice--very calming to her!

What a surprise to have children with hair!

As for the last two weeks. Not much sleep! Life with twins is all about trying to figure out some semblance of a routine. The first week I was super sick with scabs all over the back of my throat from throwing-up so much during delivery. Once that cleared up I ended up getting mastitis from breastfeeding the girls--NOT FUN. So about 10 days of fevers ranging from 101 to 103. Needless to say I have been needing some help. I've been staying with my parents and my mom has been helping with EVERYTHING! I don't know what I'd do without her. Jordan is still up at school and comes home on the weekends. It is hard on him, but until I feel confident with the girls all on my own I'll be here. I'm getting there though.

We feel blessed beyond belief to have these two little pieces of heaven in our home. We are so grateful to our Heavenly Father for sending these little angels. It's amazing how much you can love especially when babies come in twos!

What a great attitude, Hilary! You are a trooper! Good to hear things went well and that they were each such a good size! And they're gorgeous! I've been through the mastitis thing and 103 degree temps while trying to recover from having a baby! Not fun! But hang in there. It gets OH SO MUCH better after you get things figured out the first couple of months! I'm so glad to hear you're getting so much help. Congrats again!

Anyway, my mom is in your mom's ward. I have been wondering if you had them and they are SO CUTE!! I am so happy for you guys and glad to hear you are all well--well at least now! (My mom is Denise Butler, by the way).
I hope all continues to go well.
